Patrick Kurtz is a private investigator, criminologist, author, editor and researcher. He lives with his wife Dr Maya Grünschloß and their two children Ian and Enlil alternately in Germany, in Barcelona (Spain) and on the Isle of Skye (Scotland).
Born a “Römer” and grandson of the Central German regional historian Hilmar Römer, Patrick Kurtz studied provincial-Roman archaeology, psychology, comparative literature and German studies at the universities of Oxford, Leipzig, Marburg and Hagen. Besides the editorial publication of Aidan Johnstone’s memoirs under the title Livingstone’s Warning, he published in 2012 the specialist-literary volume From Ovid, Grass and Tintagel Castle – Scientific and Essayistic Excursions into European Literature.
Furthermore, Patrick Kurtz has pursued studies to varying extents on topics such as prehistory; religion and mythology; the origin, development and nature of the universe, of life (with focus on biochemistry, especially the DNA molecule) and of consciousness; philosophy; police violence; climate change as well as democracy, demagogy and disinformation in the 21st century. He always shows interest both for mainstream science and for alternative science approaches and looks beyond the Western worldview. Among his further interests/passions are music (he is a multi-instrumentalist), Rishi-Yoga, scuba-diving (PADI certified) and various forms of sport.
Out of interest and a natural inclination for combination, deduction and analysis, Patrick Kurtz completed in 2012/13 a training as private detective and has been investigating commercially since then as an IHK-certified specialist detective. His study and investigation focus in this regard is criminology applying human-ethological insights.
His further qualifications in the field of investigation and security include the IHK knowledge examination under § 34a GewO, the commercial weapons knowledge examination under § 7 WaffG, proof of knowledge in life-saving immediate measures and defibrillator instruction, intervention force according to VDS, and even lift-attendant certification according to TRBS 3121.
Languages: German, English, Spanish (each conversational) as well as, in varying levels of basic word-stock and conversational quality, Italian, French, Catalan and Greek. In addition, Patrick Kurtz holds the Latinum and is familiar with the Hebrew alphabet.
Patrick Kurtz is regularly consulted by television, radio and print media as well as by other institutions as an expert, among others by the University of Potsdam as adviser for a research project, furthermore—frequently multiple times—by Sat.1, RTL, ZDF, BBC Worldwide, WDR Radio, Galileo (ProSieben), Klett-Cotta Fachbuch, the Berliner Tagesspiegel, Die Wirtschaft Köln, Weser-Kurier, Merkurist Frankfurt, Offenbach-Post, Antenne Münster, Sat.1 NRW, BILD, MDR Fernsehen, MDR Radio (among others Figaro), NDR Fernsehen, Spiegel, the IHK-Magazine, VICE Magazine, ze.tt(youth magazine of Die Zeit), pflichtlektüre (WAZ-media group), tut (children and youth magazine), Blick, Watson (all Switzerland), the Sicherheitsakademie Berlin, Star FM Berlin, Radio NPR Berlin, Radio Wuppertal, Leipziger Volkszeitung, Dresdner Morgenpost, Sächsische Zeitung and Mitteldeutsche Zeitung, or also as “maxperte™” of the online-streaming service “maxdome”.
Since 2016 he has been actively and wholeheartedly a supporter of the well:fair Neven Subotic Foundation.
