Mr Lemgo wants to celebrate his wedding – good for him. Unfortunately, his future wife had proposed a wedding date months earlier, which he approved without much thought. The problem: Mr Lemgo, who would soon become the subject of an investigation by Kurtz Commercial Detective Agency Bielefeld and East Westphalia, is the company’s chief electrician – and that same weekend, the annual maintenance work is scheduled. The maintenance is risky and cannot be performed without him. So, what does Mr Lemgo do? The week before the wedding, he visits a doctor and submits a sick note to his employer. The company owner recalls clearly that he had to deny Mr Lemgo’s request for holiday leave due to the maintenance schedule, and that the reason for the request had been the wedding. Suspecting a fraudulent sick note, he hires our detectives in Bielefeld to place the “ill” employee under surveillance.
On the wedding day, two detective teams commence surveillance at both the residence of the target and the registry office, as Mr Lemgo’s exact whereabouts at the start of the operation are unknown. By late morning, the wedding party – including the target – arrives at the registry office, prompting the detectives stationed at the residence to end their part of the assignment. For reasons of discretion and to avoid drawing attention, the investigators do not attend the ceremony itself but monitor the exits to record Mr Lemgo leaving the building. This is achieved without difficulty thanks to the conspicuous entourage of the wedding guests.
After the ceremony, our detectives follow the couple to a countryside estate in Bad Salzuflen, where the reception takes place. A professional studio photographs the newlyweds and guests in the garden. Unfortunately, access control prevents our detectives from joining the event and observing whether Mr Lemgo engages in other activities inconsistent with illness, such as dancing energetically or consuming alcohol.
By around 4:00 p.m., the festivities appear to end. The target and his new wife leave the venue in a festively decorated vintage Mercedes and drive along the A2 toward the Ruhr area, then the A33 toward Paderborn, ultimately reaching Paderborn-Lippstadt Airport. There, the couple check in two suitcases with Air Berlin. Through a covert inquiry, our corporate detectives learn that the flight is bound for Las Palmas, Gran Canaria (Spain). After confirming this with the client, the Kurtz Detective Agency East Westphalia receives permission to continue the pursuit to Gran Canaria. Our investigators manage to book two last-minute tickets at moderate prices and board the same flight less than two hours later.
Upon arrival on Gran Canaria, Mr and Mrs Lemgo are transferred to a hotel. Our Bielefeld detectives, unable to rent a car in time, follow the hotel shuttle by taxi and secure a room at the same hotel – at exorbitant rates. For three days, our private investigators remain on the island to obtain definitive evidence of the employee’s deception. During this time, the newlyweds visit several Gran Canaria landmarks – including a cave village in the Barranco de Guayadeque and the Mundo Aborigen archaeological museum – go hiking in the Bandama Natural Park, and spend time on the beach swimming, playing badminton, and otherwise engaging in physically demanding leisure activities. By this point, it is beyond doubt that Mr Lemgo is not actually ill. Considering the investigation costs and the proportionality of resources used, our detectives return to Paderborn-Lippstadt on the third day after arrival.
After receiving the detailed investigation report – covering both the Bad Salzuflen wedding and the Gran Canariahoneymoon – the employer terminates Mr Lemgo’s contract without notice. Upon returning from his honeymoon, the target of the Kurtz Private Detective Agency Bielefeld faces an unpleasant and unexpected “wedding gift”: summary dismissal by his former employer, who thereby rids himself of an untrustworthy employee.
