The question “Police or private detective?” is undoubtedly asked by many clients of Kurtz Investigations Bielefeld and East Westphalia. So why engage a private investigator? The reasons are manifold — a few examples are listed below.
On one hand there are many areas of private investigation which are not of public interest and therefore not pursued by authorities. On the other hand, our investigators work under different conditions: they can devote their full focus to a single case, unlike the police, who are often overloaded with work. Moreover, the principle of legality, which applies to officers, does not apply to our private investigators from Bielefeld. We are not obliged to report offences of which we become aware (exception: serious crimes). In this way, at the client’s request, the target person and our clients’ interests can be protected, and our investigations may enable them to reach an agreement with the proven perpetrator without external criminal-law interference.
Also, the Code of Criminal Procedure plays only a minimal role for us, which significantly increases the freedom of movement of private investigators such as those of Kurtz Detective Agency Bielefeld.
Not only the shortage of personnel at police authorities plays a role when considering hiring a detective, but also the often undignified official handling of victims of sexual offences, domestic violence, stalking and threats. Many police officers are not even willing to take on stalking and threat cases — the reasons: no staff, no time, no inclination, and for many it has not yet dawned that these offences are now prosecuted under the Criminal Code. In cases of domestic violence and sexual offences, officers often show little sensitivity; victims are frequently confronted with the shocking accusation of having brought it upon themselves. For these reasons, according to expert opinion, the number of unreported cases is significantly higher than for most other offences. Our investigators in Bielefeld are trained in dealing with victims of crime and approach these issues with tact.
Other matters simply do not fall within the remit of the police: marital infidelity, most kinds of custody disputes, or even fraudulent acts in maintenance law, feigned sick leave and falsified expenses — although these are in name alone (maintenance fraud, sick-leave fraud, expense fraud) already offences under Section 263 of the Criminal Code. Accordingly, to clarify such problems, commissioning a reputable business or private investigation agency is the appropriate choice.
Kurtz Detective Agency Bielefeld places special emphasis on trained and qualified specialists who continually further their education, especially in the areas of law, security systems and IT. The technical equipment of our investigators corresponds to the latest standards, while the equipment of investigative authorities due to years of cost-cutting is in part outdated — thus making successful case resolution additionally difficult.
Although private investigators can cover a broader spectrum of case constellations than the police, serious private investigators nevertheless strictly adhere to the legal regulations our profession must observe, so as not to jeopardise successful and court-usable evidence collection.
