Mr Lemgo wants to celebrate a wedding – good for him. The only bad thing is that the future Mrs Lemgo suggested a wedding date already months ago and her husband-to-be agreed on it without much thought. Mr Lemgo – who is about to become the target person of the Kurtz corporate detective agency in Bielefeld and East Westphalia – is the senior electrician of his company. Unfortunately, the weekend of the wedding is also the appointment for the annual maintenance which is associated with a number of risks and which cannot be executed without Mr Lemgo. What will Mr Lemgo do? The week before the wedding, he sees a doctor and presents his boss with a sick note. His boss, of course, clearly remembers that he had to turn down Mr Lemgo's initial application for leave because of this very maintenance and also remembers that the reason for his application was a wedding date. Accordingly, he assumes that the sick leave is a fraud and commissions our detectives in Bielefeld to monitor the supposedly indisposed employee.

On the day of the wedding, two investigator teams monitor both the dwelling place of the suspect and the register office since it is not entirely known where Mr Lemgo will be at the beginning of the investigation. Already before 11.00 am, the wedding guests arrive at the register office, together with the suspect, from an unknown direction and, thus, the private investigators from Bielefeld who remained at the home address of the suspect can quit their surveillance assignment. For reasons of discretion and inconspicuousness, the two investigators do not participate in the register office wedding but instead cover the main exits of the building in order to continue the surveillance once the suspect leaves the building. Thanks to the group of cheering guests, this turns out to be an easy task.

After the town hall wedding, our investigators follow the group to a country estate in Bad Salzuflen where the reception takes place. Professional photographers take pictures of the bridal couple and the wedding guests. Unfortunately, access controls make it impossible for our investigators from the Kurtz Detective Agency Bielefeld to participate in the festivities and to see if Mr Lemgo attends further activities which would clearly prevent a recovery – apart from the mere celebrating of the wedding –, for example, extensive dancing, the consumption of alcohol, and so on.    

At approximately 4 pm, the party comes to an end as the target person of the Kurtz Detective Agency Bielefeld and East Westphalia leaves the location in Bad Salzuflen together with his newlywed wife. Together, they climb into a Mercedes-Benz Oldtimer, which is decorated fit to the occasion, and drive in the towards the Ruhr area along the Bundesautobahn 2, then along the A33 toward Paderborn and, ultimately, to the Paderborn Lippstadt Airport. Here, the bridal couple checks in two suitcases with Air Berlin. Through an investigative interview, our corporate detectives learn that the couple is about to board a plane to Las Palmas on Gran Canaria. The operations monitoring centre of the Kurtz Detective Agency East Westphalia confers with the client who agrees to continue the surveillance of Mr Lemgos on Gran Canaria. Our investigators book two remaining seats for a fairly moderate price and only two hours later, they find themselves on the plane to Las Palmas.

Once arrived on Gran Canaria, Mr and Mrs Lemgo are brought to their hotel. Not having enough time to rent a car, our detectives from Bielefeld are forced to follow the shuttle bus on a taxi, and in the suspect's hotel, they can only book a room for a horrendous price. Our private detectives spend three days in total on Gran Canaria to acquire the final proof of Mr Lemgo's fraudulent sick leave. During this time, the newlyweds go on excursions to different sights on Gran Canaria (a cave village in Barranco de Guayadeque, an archaeological museum, "Mundo Aborigen"), walk in the Bandara Natural Monument, and cut a good and very fit figure at the beach, swimming, playing badminton and with other leisure activities. From this point onwards, we can rule out entirely that Mr Lemgo suffers from any sickness which is why our investigators start back to Paderborn Lippstadt on the third day after their arrival on Gran Canaria. With due regard to the detective fees, this is to guarantee the proportionality of the measures used to convict the suspect of sick note fraud.

After our client is presented with the investigation report of our private investigators which documents the suspect's activities on Gran Canaria and during the celebrations in Bad Salzuflen, our client immediately sends a letter of termination of employment to Mr Lemgo. Accordingly, the target person of the Kurtz Private Detective Agency Bielefeld, upon his return, is surprised by a rather unpleasant belated "wedding gift" from his, now, former employer who disposed of a disloyal and unreliable employee.
